Summary of Insulin Section
It is difficult to summarize the insulin section, but shown below are charts with the basic pharmacodynamics of the current insulins. As will be discussed fully in the management section, in general, long acting insulin such as insulin glargine, is used as basal insulin to control hepatic gluconeogenesis. Short acting insulin, such as insulin aspart, is given just before a meal to give physiologic insulin coverage for that meal.
